One Question to Ponder at the End of Your Day to Recharge

Recharge

When I was a nun, at the end of the day or during dinner, the sisters would often check in with each other to reflect and recharge by asking one or more of these questions:

  • What was the best part of your day?
  • What caused you to struggle?
  • Were there any insights that gave you pause to think differently?
  • Did anything stir you to love-in-action?

Since my time of being a nun, I still reflect and check in with my family using these questions.

Recharge with this Question

I have added another question for reflection at the end of the day to recharge my energy and well-being.

Where did you find joy, and where did you give joy to others?

Joy is the emotion of great delight.

Joy happens when something or someone is greatly valued or appreciated. Beauty and wonder are some of the ways that lead to the experience of joy.

This one question about finding and giving joy helps to re-center and re-focus on intentionally living the day.

Spirit Seeking

There is a song lyric from a hymn I often sang with my sisters when I was a nun:

Spirit seeking light and beauty, heart that longest for thy rest, soul that asketh understanding, only thus can ye be blest.

A spirit seeking beauty, a soul longing for rest, and a heart searching for understanding are helpful guidelines to live throughout the day.

How are you seeking beauty this day?

In what ways are you inviting understanding while giving yourself and others the grace to live the best we can right now?

When setting your intention for the day, include the desire to be surprised by beauty or give someone joy with no expectations attached.

Just to be is a blessing. Just to live is holy.

Your turn to ponder this question tonight to recharge:

Where did you find joy today, and where did you give joy to others?
