3 Journal Prompts to Help You Calibrate Your Inner Compass of Intention

Inner Compass

Connecting your intention with your life’s purpose helps align your actions with your mindset, a way of fine-tuning your inner compass.

Yet, life is full of distractions, and there are times you may need help staying on target.

Here are three journal prompts to help calibrate your inner compass of intention for the journey of growth and well-being.

The Inner Compass of Inspiration

Journal Prompt 1: What do I want for my life?

This question grounds you in:

  • The desire of your heart.
  • Call of your inner soul.
  • The reason you are here in life.

Journal Prompt 2: Why am I not there?

This question directs you to reflect on:

  • What is blocking you?
  • The obstacles that hold you back.
  • The roadblocks that prevent you from living as your genuine self.

These two prompts are from one of my favorite theologians, Thomas Merton.

Thomas Merton was a Trappist monk from Gethsemani, Kentucky, and a prolific writer on spirituality. He died in 1967, and his writings are as relevant today as they were during his lifetime.

The Inner Compass of Action

Journal Prompt 3: How and when will I take action to get there? (What do I genuinely want in life?)

This question challenges you to:

  • Focus on changes you need to make.
  • Take actionable steps to get you back on track.
  • Align or re-align your intention, behaviors, and actions toward who you are to be in life.

This third question is one I reflect upon often.

BONUS Journal Prompt: Now what?

This question invites you to:

  • Reflect on how you will live differently.
  • Focus on what needs to change or pivot.
  • Commit to the actions you need to do right now to remain firm in your life’s purpose.
